A nice turnout at the Euphoria Cafe. Gerry couldn't be there to obsess over his iPhone, so Ginger stepped up to the plate and filled in for him. Lorne recently bought a new digital SLR and he brought it along to the Klatsch to show the KlatschMeister. Here's a shot of El Klatscho trying to set up a demonstration of a homopolar motor. To make a simple homopolar motor you need five things: an AA battery, a drywall screw, a short length of wire, a small magnet and a working brain. The Klatschinator had the first four things but, alas, did not have the fifth. His first attempt resulted in no movement of the motor at all. Luckily, he finally figured out what he was doing wrong and the thing did sort of work. If you want to see a much better demo, there's a nice video here.
